Our Vitiligo recipe
How to successfully fight Vitiligo? Let us answer the most frequently asked question and mention all types of non-invasive treatments. But first, let's briefly explain how vitiligo originates.
There are two main theories of its origin:
- The most common is autoimmune destruction of melanocytes.
- Another theory involves self-destruction through enzymatic processes due to a failure in cell cycle regulation under oxidative stress.
If you want to learn more about what vitiligo is and how it develops, read our blog: What is vitiligo.
One of the most successful approaches in managing vitiligo is a combination of:
- Phototherapy – UVB light therapy (spring, autumn, winter) or natural sunlight exposure (summer).
- Prescription immunomodulators – to be applied every morning and before bedtime.
- Vitistop Gel – a highly effective gel for depigmentation control, especially in combination with UVB therapy or sunlight.
- Vitistop Tablets – contain patented EXTRAMEL® along with vitamins (C, D3, E, B1, B5, B9, B12) and minerals (selenium, copper, zinc). These nutrients help protect cells against oxidative stress.
- Vitamins and minerals – especially vitamin D3 during periods of low sun exposure. For a full overview, see our blog: The effect of vitamins on vitiligo.
- Proper nutrition – supplements such as chlorella and collagen can also support vitiligo treatment.
- Cosmetic camouflage – helps conceal vitiligo spots and boost self-confidence.
We’ve prepared an e-book explaining the detailed use of Vitistop products in combination with phototherapy.
PHOTOTHERAPY – TREATMENT WITH LIGHT
Phototherapy is considered the most effective method to stimulate repigmentation. It combines ultraviolet UVB light (311 nm) with Vitistop Gel, which enhances the therapy’s effectiveness.
You can choose home phototherapy with a handheld UVB lamp such as the Dermalight 80, or visit medical facilities for regular treatment sessions. Learn more in our blog: Phototherapy – light therapy.
Important information:
Only expose your skin to UVB light or sunlight once any redness has fully subsided and the vitiligo patches appear pale again. For this reason, treatment is typically carried out 2 to 3 times per week, allowing the skin enough time to regenerate between sessions.
VITILIGO AND STRESS
A balanced lifestyle and stress management are key. Without these, treatment results are often limited. More details can be found in our article: Vitiligo and stress.
VITILIGO DIET
A healthy lifestyle affects not only our internal systems but is also reflected in the health of our skin, hair and nails. A nutritious, balanced diet benefits everyone – not only those affected by vitiligo.
Key sources of essential vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin B12 – meat, liver, eggs, tuna, cheese, milk
- Vitamin C – blackcurrants, rose hips, peppers, leafy greens, citrus fruits
- Vitamin D – eggs, fish
- Vitamin E – cereal sprouts, vegetable oils, nuts, leafy vegetables
- Folic acid (B9) – lettuce, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, whole grains
- Selenium – tuna, nuts, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, whole grain bread
- Zinc – wheat germ, yeast, meat, liver, pumpkin seeds
- Vitamin A – carrots, squash, tomatoes, green beans
- Beta-carotene – carrots, orange pepper, spinach, peaches, apricots, sweet potatoes

Vitiligo treatment at glance
Start Vitiligo Treatment Immediately
Fresh vitiligo retains a strong “memory trace” of melanocytes — the sooner you begin, the quicker and more effective repigmentation will be.
Light as a Pigment-Generating Tool
Phototherapy with a specialised 311 nm UVB lamp is crucial for activating melanocytes. Ordinary mountain sunlight, infrared radiation or light boxes will not initiate the process. In summer, you may supplement with natural sunlight, but commercial sunbeds are not permitted.
Treatment Complexity
Alongside phototherapy, apply topical gels and creams that support pigment production. Used together with the UVB lamp or sunlight, they significantly accelerate the onset of repigmentation.
Halting the Spread of Vitiligo
For lasting success, it is important to:
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle and consistent routine
- Eliminate stress and autoimmune triggers
- Include antioxidants — for example, Vitistop tablets slow the active phase of the condition
Phototherapy Course
Treatments are administered 2–3 times per week. The aim is a mild reddening (erythema) of the depigmented area. If no erythema occurs, the exposure time is gradually increased. The next UVB dose is applied only after the redness has fully subsided — this controlled process stimulates new pigment formation.
Expected Results
The first noticeable signs of repigmentation typically appear after 4–8 weeks of treatment.
Common Mistakes
- Inconsistency and unsystematic irradiation
- Premature discontinuation of treatment
- Incorrectly set UVB exposure times
- Incomplete approach — omitting topical preparations or the UVB light itself
