Vitiligo UVB Light Therapy
Vitiligo UVB Light Therapy
Modern vitiligo treatment is primarily focused on stimulating melanocytes and restoring pigment. Today, narrowband UVB (311 nm) light therapy is considered the gold standard and one of the most effective approaches available.
Instead of relying on outdated or aggressive methods, more and more patients are choosing a targeted home-based UVB therapy, which allows for consistent treatment, better control and long-term results.
Key principle: Vitiligo responds best to regular, controlled light exposure. Consistency is more important than intensity.
Why home UVB therapy works
- Regular and consistent treatment
- Precise targeting of affected areas
- Lower overall treatment cost over time
- Better control of dosage and skin response
- Comfort and convenience of home use
- Clinically proven wavelength: 311 nm narrowband UVB
How to use a UVB lamp
Treatment typically starts with short exposure times (e.g. 20–30 seconds per area), gradually increasing based on skin response.
The target is a mild redness (erythema) that fades within 24 hours. This indicates that the treatment dose is effective.
Frequency: 2–3 times per week, with rest periods between sessions to allow the skin to recover.
When to expect results
Early signs of repigmentation often appear within 4–8 weeks.
For optimal results, treatment should be continued for several months. Consistency is the key factor in achieving visible improvement.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Irregular use
- Stopping treatment too early
- Increasing exposure too quickly
- Not combining with supportive topical products
Where vitiligo responds best to UVB therapy
During summer, natural sunlight can be used as a supplement. Avoid combining strong sunlight and UVB lamp on the same day.
We wish you every success with your treatment.
