How to Use Your Dermalight 80R
Plug in the device and put on the UV protective goggles.
Initial exposure:
Adults: 30 seconds
Children: 15 seconds
Treat 2–3 times per week. Always leave at least 48 hours between sessions.
Important: Only treat if any redness from the previous session has completely faded.
- No redness: Increase exposure by 20 seconds next time.
- Mild redness (goal): Maintain the current exposure time.
- Strong redness: Skip sessions until the skin has healed, then reduce the exposure time by 20%.
- Typical exposure: Around 3–4 minutes per treatment area, depending on skin type.
The goal: Mild, pinkish redness (erythema) that appears 6–8 hours after exposure and fades by the next day. This indicates successful stimulation of the skin.
Why Home UVB is a Sensible Choice
Catch it early: UVB phototherapy is often most effective on new, active vitiligo patches. Treating these areas early – while melanocyte activity is still present – may lead to repigmentation, which in some cases can be seen within just a few weeks.
Convenience: A home device allows you to start therapy immediately without waiting for clinic appointments, helping you to respond quickly if new patches appear.
Note: Older, stable patches often require longer treatment (3–14 months).
