Start treating vitiligo as early as possible
Recently developed vitiligo retains a strong “memory” of melanocytes – the sooner you begin, the faster and more effective repigmentation tends to be.
Light: the key to pigment production
Phototherapy with targeted UVB light at a wavelength of 311 nm is crucial for activating melanocytes. Ordinary sunbeds, infrared lamps or “biolamps” will not trigger this process. In summer you can supplement with natural sunlight. Commercial tanning salons are not recommended.
A holistic approach
Combine phototherapy with topical gels and creams that stimulate pigment production. Used together with a UVB lamp or sunlight, they significantly accelerate repigmentation.
Stopping vitiligo spreading
For lasting success, focus on:
- a healthy lifestyle and regular routine,
- reducing stress and autoimmune triggers,
- antioxidants – for example, Vitistop tablets help slow the active phase of the condition.
Phototherapy schedule
Treat the skin 2–3 times a week. Aim for a mild erythema (pinkness) in the depigmented areas. If no erythema appears, gradually lengthen exposure. Give the next UVB dose only when redness has completely faded – this controlled cycle stimulates new pigment.
Expected results
The first visible signs of repigmentation usually appear after 4–8 weeks of treatment.
Common mistakes
- Inconsistent or irregular phototherapy.
- Stopping treatment too soon.
- Incorrect UVB exposure times.
- Incomplete regimen – skipping topical products or UVB light.
