Home phototherapy

Preparing for your first UVB session

  1. Plug in the mains lead and switch the UVB unit on.
  2. Initial exposure time (first session):
    • Adults: 30 seconds
    • Children: 15 seconds

Dose adjustment

Ongoing UVB treatment directions

  • Treat 2–3 times per week, leaving at least one full day between UVB sessions.
  • Only treat when any redness (erythema) from the previous exposure has subsided and the skin has fully recovered.

A desired skin reaction (erythema - redness) typically appears 6–8 hours after UVB exposure:

No redness:

increase UVB exposure time by 20 seconds at the next session.

Mild redness:

if it clears within 24 hours, extend by 20 seconds at the next session.

Noticeable redness:

(desired state) if it is still pink after 24 hours, keep the same time and wait for it to fully fade.

Marked redness:

pause UVB treatment until the skin returns to normal, then reduce the time by 20%.

The typical exposure per spot is about 3–4 minutes, depending on skin type.

What to expect

With a consistent routine, you may first notice that plaques feel softer, less dry and easier to manage. Scaling, itching and visible redness may then gradually improve as treatment continues.

NB-UVB results build step by step rather than overnight. Many people begin to notice visible changes over several weeks, while thicker or long-standing plaques may require more time.

Regular sessions, daily moisturising and patience give the treatment the best opportunity to work. Taking a photograph every two to four weeks can also help you recognise gradual progress that may be difficult to notice from day to day.

Avoid these common mistakes

Applying a thick oil layer before UVB Peeling or scratching plaques Increasing exposure too quickly Applying prescription creams before UVB Stopping after only a few sessions

Your first month

A Detailed Day-by-Day Psoriasis Treatment Example

Consistency is one of the most important parts of psoriasis care. The example below shows how Psoriva Oil, PsoriaStop, prescribed topical treatment and three weekly NB-UVB sessions can be organised during the first month.

Your first-month routine

  • PsoriaStop: take 1 capsule daily with water after breakfast, as directed on the product label.
  • Psoriva Oil: apply a small amount to dry and scaly plaques two or three times daily as needed, especially after washing and after an NB-UVB session.
  • Before NB-UVB: massage a thin, even layer of Psoriva Oil into the plaques approximately 30 minutes before treatment. Allow it to absorb fully and do not leave a thick, wet or dripping layer on the skin.
  • Prescription topical treatment: if prescribed, apply it separately from NB-UVB and Psoriva Oil, usually after the session or before bed, exactly as directed by your doctor.
  • NB-UVB treatment: complete three sessions each week, for example on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving at least one full recovery day between sessions.

Important: This is an illustrative adult routine. Always follow the starting time, treatment distance, maximum exposure time and dose-adjustment instructions supplied with your specific NB-UVB device. Prescription medicines should be used only as directed by your doctor.

Example week: Monday to Sunday

Tap a day to view the complete morning, treatment and evening routine.

Monday – Session 1

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast. Apply Psoriva Oil to dry plaques if needed.

Skin care and NB-UVB

Apply a thin layer of Psoriva Oil 30 minutes before NB-UVB and massage it in thoroughly. Allow the oil to absorb. The skin should not remain wet or dripping. Use the starting time and distance stated for your lamp. If following the standard starting example in this protocol, the first adult exposure is 30 seconds.

Evening

Apply Psoriva Oil again after treatment if the skin feels dry. Use your prescribed topical treatment separately, usually before bed, exactly as directed.

Tuesday – Recovery day

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast. Check the plaques for Monday’s skin reaction.

Skin care and recovery

No NB-UVB treatment. Apply Psoriva Oil two or three times during the day as needed to soften scaling and relieve dryness. Do not scratch, peel or forcibly remove scales.

Evening

Continue Psoriva Oil as needed. Apply prescribed treatment at the time directed by your doctor.

Wednesday – Session 2

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast. Check that the skin has fully recovered from Monday.

Skin care and NB-UVB

Apply a thin layer of Psoriva Oil 30 minutes before NB-UVB. If there was no redness after Monday’s session, increase the exposure by 20 seconds if this adjustment is permitted by your lamp instructions. If mild redness occurred and cleared within 24 hours, the next exposure may also be extended by 20 seconds according to the treatment protocol.

Evening

Moisturise the plaques with Psoriva Oil after treatment if needed. Use prescribed topical treatment separately before bed.

Thursday – Recovery day

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast and assess Wednesday’s skin reaction.

Skin care and recovery

No NB-UVB treatment. Apply Psoriva Oil two or three times as needed. Do not treat skin that remains clearly red, feels hot, painful or irritated.

Evening

Continue the usual evening skin-care and prescribed treatment routine.

Friday – Session 3

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast. Apply Psoriva Oil earlier in the day if needed.

Skin care and NB-UVB

Apply a thin layer of Psoriva Oil 30 minutes before treatment. Select the exposure time according to Wednesday’s reaction. Increase by 20 seconds only if the skin reaction and your device instructions allow it. Keep the lamp at the same recommended distance during every session.

Evening

Apply Psoriva Oil after treatment if the plaques feel dry or tight. Use prescribed topical treatment separately before bed.

Saturday – Recovery day

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast and check Friday’s skin reaction.

Skin care and recovery

No NB-UVB treatment. Use Psoriva Oil regularly and allow the treated skin to recover completely.

Evening

Continue your usual evening routine and prescribed treatment if applicable.

Sunday – Routine and review

Morning

Take 1 PsoriaStop capsule after breakfast.

Skin care and review

No NB-UVB treatment. Continue applying Psoriva Oil as needed. Record the exposure times used during the week and note changes in scaling, thickness, redness, itching and comfort.

Evening

Apply your evening products as usual. Prepare to repeat the same three-session routine next week.

How to adjust the next NB-UVB session

No redness

Increase the next exposure by 20 seconds if your device instructions permit time-based adjustment.

Mild redness

If it is mild, painless and clears within 24 hours, increase the next exposure by 20 seconds according to the protocol.

Noticeable redness

If the skin remains pink the following day, wait until it has fully recovered and repeat the same exposure time.

Strong redness or burning

Pause treatment until the skin returns to normal, then reduce the exposure time by 20% or seek medical advice.

A burn is not the goal of treatment. Stop and seek medical advice if you experience pain, blistering, marked swelling or redness that does not settle.

Weeks 2–4

Repeat the same Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule throughout the first month. Continue taking one PsoriaStop capsule daily, applying Psoriva Oil regularly and following your prescribed topical-treatment plan.

Adjust the exposure for each treated area according to its own reaction. Take photographs in similar lighting at the beginning and end of the month, as gradual changes in plaque thickness, scaling and redness can otherwise be difficult to notice.

What happens after the first month?

Continue NB-UVB two or three times weekly according to your treatment plan. Three weekly sessions may produce improvement more quickly, while two weekly sessions may be easier to maintain.

Continue daily moisturising and prescribed treatment. Review progress regularly and speak to a healthcare professional if the plaques are worsening, treatment is poorly tolerated or there is no meaningful improvement.
