Phototherapy guide
Light cannot penetrate thick layers of scale. Before UVB, you need to remove them.
How:
Use Psoriva oil (massage in and leave to absorb) to soften plaques.
Treat 2–3 times per week. Leave at least 24 hours between sessions.
Important:
After UVB exposure, moisturise the skin again with the oil.
- Start: 30 seconds per area.
- No reaction: add 20 seconds next time.
- Light pink: ideal response, do not increase time.
- Burning: skip the next session, then reduce time by 20%.
Treatment goal: Support slower skin cell turnover and help smooth plaques. Mild redness after UVB is a sign the dose is in the effective range.
What to avoid (common mistakes)
- ❌ Treating un-prepared skin
Using UVB on thick layers of scale blocks the light. Always remove scales (soften with oil) before the session. - ❌ Scratching & Picking scales
Never peel scales forcefully. Trauma triggers the Koebner phenomenon, causing new lesions to form. - ❌ Applying creams before UVB
Heavy moisturizers applied immediately before the session act as a barrier. Apply them after therapy. - ❌ Ignoring lifestyle triggers
Stress, alcohol, and smoking are major pro-inflammatory factors. Treatment is less effective if these are not managed.
